Why sheers go grey without anyone noticing
Almost every new home in Cranbourne East and Clyde was handed over with the same window setup: a sheer on the front track and a blockout behind it. The sheer is the one that gets dirty, and it is the one nobody thinks about.

They hang together, so people assume they need the same treatment. They do not.
Open weave, so soil goes into the fabric rather than onto it. Greys evenly, then develops a damp-hem band from winter condensation. Needs gentle, even treatment — uneven wetting on a light open weave is what leaves a watermark ring.
Blocks light because the back is coated or triple-woven, not because it is thick. That coating is the vulnerable part: flexing, scrubbing or a washing machine drum cracks it, and once it flakes the light comes through in pinholes. Permanent.
A pelmet is a horizontal ledge at ceiling height, which makes it one of the dustiest surfaces in the house and one nobody can reach. Cleaning the curtains and leaving the pelmet just reloads them.
