Nobody has ever cleaned your bedhead.
It sits at head height taking hair oil and product every night, it cannot be taken off and washed, and it is the one upholstered item in the house that never gets touched.

South Clean cleans lounge suites, bedheads, dining chairs, curtains and mattresses across Botanic Ridge, Junction Village, Devon Meadows and Cranbourne South — larger homes with good furniture that is worth maintaining rather than replacing.

The upholstered item nobody thinks of as upholstery
Fabric bedheads went from occasional to standard, and most larger homes in Botanic Ridge now have two or three — usually in a pale linen-look weave, sometimes velvet, often a big padded panel running most of the wall behind the bed. They get vacuumed roughly never, and they cannot be unzipped, unclipped or put in a machine, because the fabric is stapled over foam and a plywood frame.
Meanwhile it takes more contact than almost anything else in the room. You sit against it to read. Your head rests on it, or just above it, for hours every night. Hair carries natural oil plus whatever went into it — leave-in conditioner, dry shampoo, wax, hairspray — and all of that transfers to the panel at exactly the height where your head meets it. Because the oil is slightly sticky, airborne dust bonds to it rather than falling away.
The result is a soft dark halo at pillow height, sharper in the middle and fading outwards. It builds so gradually that people stop seeing it, and because both sides of a double bed get their own halo, there is nothing clean nearby to compare against. The reliable test is the back of the panel or the section behind the bedside table — whatever colour that is, is the colour the bedhead is meant to be.
What a bedhead collects, and why it stays
Four things, all of them stubborn for different reasons.
Transfers directly at contact height, and it is oily rather than dry — so it bonds to the fibre and traps dust instead of brushing off.
Same chemistry as the yellowing on a mattress, and it oxidises the same way, darkening slowly with age and air.
The upper rail is a horizontal ledge in the room with the most airborne fibre, since bedding sheds every time it is moved.
Pushed flat against a wall, so the back never dries or ventilates — which matters most on an outside wall in winter.
How we clean one
In place, with the bed pulled forward far enough to reach the top edge and the back. A dry pass first to lift dust and hair, then the oily halo is pre-treated so it releases rather than smears, then light controlled-moisture extraction working across the panel evenly. Even application matters more here than anywhere else in the house, because bedheads are usually pale, flat-woven and vertical — three conditions that make a partial wet patch dry into a visible ring. It is a fast job, and it is the change people photograph.
The lounge suite, priced by the seat
Larger homes here mean bigger suites — often a modular plus a second lounge in the theatre room. Lift a seat cushion and look underneath: that strip has been shielded from oils, dust and light, so it is the colour the suite actually is. The gap between that and the rest is soil, not wear.
$40 a seat. Count seat cushions, not pieces. Cushions cleaned both faces, plus arms, back and the joins between modules.
Priced as a seat, no mechanism surcharge. Recliners open out fully so the footrest and cavity get done too.
Quoted with the rest of the visit. Wall-width padded panels take a little longer than a standard bedhead — mention the style when you book.
Curtains and mattresses, same visit
While the bed is pulled out, the mattress is the obvious second job — a dry pass, steam clean and anti-dust-mite treatment, extracted dry enough to sleep on that night. Curtains we clean in place on the rod, including sheers, blockouts, lined drapes, Roman blinds and the pelmet above them, so there is no ladder work and nothing to rehang.

Botanic Ridge upholstery cleaning — FAQs
Can a fabric bedhead be cleaned?
Yes, and it is cleaned in place – the fabric is stapled over foam and a plywood frame, so it cannot be unzipped or washed. We pull the bed forward far enough to reach the top edge and the back, dry pass first, pre-treat the oily area at head height, then work light controlled moisture evenly across the panel.
What is the dark patch on my bedhead?
Hair oil and product transferred at head height, plus sweat and skin oil, with dust bonded onto it. Because the residue is oily rather than dry it sticks rather than brushing off, so it builds into a soft halo that is darkest in the middle. It appears on both sides of a double bed, which is why there is nothing clean nearby to notice it against – compare it to the back of the panel instead.
Can I clean the bedhead myself with spray and a cloth?
We would rather you did not – it is the most common way one gets ruined. Rubbing spreads the oil into a wider halo instead of lifting it, uneven dampness dries with a visible tide line, and on velvet the pressure crushes the pile into a permanently shaded patch. If something is spilled, blot it and leave it.
How much does upholstery cleaning cost in Botanic Ridge?
From $40 a seat, quoted upfront. Count the seat cushions rather than the pieces. There is no premium for velvet or textured fabric and no surcharge for recliners. Bedheads are quoted with the rest of the visit – mention the style, since a wall-width padded panel takes longer than a standard one.
What is the W, S, WS or X code on my furniture?
It is the manufacturer cleaning code, usually on a tag under a cushion or on the frame. W means water-based cleaning is safe, S means solvent only, WS means either, and X means suction only. S matters most – water on an S-coded fabric can leave a permanent ring even after it dries, and many of the textured weaves and velvets used on bedheads and feature chairs are S-coded.
Can you do the bedheads, mattresses and lounges in one visit?
Yes, and it is the sensible way to do it since the bed is already pulled out for the bedhead. One call-out covers Botanic Ridge, Cranbourne, Cranbourne East, Cranbourne South, Clyde, Junction Village and Devon Meadows at the same rates, with no travel surcharge.
How long does upholstery take to dry?
Usually 2 to 4 hours, extending to 6 to 8 hours or longer in cold or humid conditions – an estimate rather than a guarantee. Beds are usable the same night. Before we leave we will tell you which windows and fans will get things dry fastest.
