Recliners hide more than any other sofa.
Footrests take shoe soil, and the mechanism gap swallows everything else. Both need opening up. From $40 a seat.

South Clean cleans couches, recliners, upholstery, curtains and mattresses across Keysborough, Noble Park and Dingley Village — modern estate homes where the lounge suite is usually the biggest thing in the room.

The two places a recliner hides soil
Recliner suites are everywhere in Keysborough’s newer homes, and they’re cleaned less thoroughly than any other kind of sofa — not through neglect, but because two of the dirtiest parts are invisible when the chair is closed.
The first is the footrest. It’s the only upholstered surface in the house that regularly takes the underside of feet and, often enough, shoes. That means street soil, not household dust, and it lands on a panel that’s folded away out of sight the moment anyone stands up. Most people have never looked at it properly.
The second is the mechanism cavity — the space the frame folds into. Crumbs, hair, coins and dust drop through the seat gap and collect in there, and nothing you can do with a vacuum nozzle reaches it. When a recliner smells faintly stale despite looking fine, that’s almost always where it’s coming from.
So we open them up
Extended, cleaned through, and left closed and dry.
Cleaned as its own surface with the street soil treated properly, not wiped over while folded away.
Debris cleared from the cavity and the fabric worked around the frame — carefully, because soaking metal parts is how mechanisms seize or mark.
Where body oils concentrate. On a recliner the headrest takes more contact than on a standard sofa, so it darkens first.
Controlled moisture matters more here
Upholstery is fabric over foam, so anything applied has to come back out — and on a recliner there’s metal in the middle of it. Over-wetting doesn’t just leave damp foam and days of drying; moisture sitting against a steel frame is what causes stiffness, marking and, over time, corrosion. We use controlled moisture with strong extraction and keep it away from the working parts.

Recliner & upholstery cleaning Keysborough — FAQs
Do you clean recliners properly, including the footrest?
Yes, extended rather than folded away. The footrest is the only upholstered surface in the house that regularly takes the underside of feet and often shoes, so it carries street soil rather than household dust – and it is hidden the moment anyone stands up. We clean it as its own surface.
My recliner smells stale but looks fine. Why?
Almost always the mechanism cavity – the space the frame folds into. Crumbs, hair, coins and dust drop through the seat gap and collect in there, and no vacuum nozzle reaches it. We clear the cavity and clean around the frame, which is usually where the smell was coming from.
Does cleaning damage the reclining mechanism?
Not the way we do it. Moisture sitting against a steel frame is what causes stiffness, marking and eventually corrosion, so we use controlled moisture with strong extraction and keep it away from the working parts. If you are cleaning a spot yourself, keep liquid away from the release lever and the frame join.
Do recliners cost more to clean?
No. Recliners are priced per seat like any other upholstery – a three-seat recliner lounge is three seats and the mechanism adds no surcharge. It does add a little time, so it helps to tell us how many recline when you book.
How much does upholstery cleaning cost in Keysborough?
Upholstery is $40 per seat with a minimum call-out of $120. Modulars are priced by the seat however they are arranged, and dining chairs, ottomans and fabric bed heads are quoted the same simple way.
Is it safe to clean upholstery myself?
It is riskier than carpet. Check the tag for the cleaning code first: W is water-safe, S is solvent only, WS is either, X is vacuum only. Water on an S-coded fabric leaves a permanent ring, and because upholstery is fabric over foam, over-wetting soaks the foam and takes days to dry.
Do you cover Noble Park, Springvale South and Dingley Village?
Yes. We cover Keysborough, Springvale South, Noble Park, Dingley Village, Bangholme and Aspendale Gardens at the same rates – there is no travel surcharge between suburbs.
