Leather, Couch & Upholstery Cleaning Rowville

📍 Rowville, Lysterfield & Scoresby

Leather doesn’t get cleaned. It gets fed.

It’s skin, not fabric — so the job is removing surface soil without stripping the oils that keep it from cracking.

Why leather needs the opposite approach

With fabric, the aim is to get soil out of the weave. Leather has no weave — it’s a hide with a finish on top, and the soil sits on that finish rather than inside anything. So the cleaning part is comparatively easy. The risk is what you do to the leather while you’re at it.

Leather stays supple because of oils held in the hide. Strip those out with a harsh cleaner and the leather dries, stiffens and eventually cracks along the fold lines where it flexes most — the seat front, the arm tops. That damage is permanent, and it’s usually caused by cleaning, not by use. Which is why the job is really two jobs: lift the soil, then put the conditioning back.

Leather, in two stages

Clean, then condition. Skipping the second is the mistake.

🥯 Body oils on the contact points

Headrests and arm tops darken first, because hair and skin oils transfer straight onto the finish. That’s surface soil and it lifts.

💧 Then conditioning

Restores suppleness after cleaning and slows the drying that leads to cracking. On a suite that gets daily use it’s the part that extends its life.

⚠️ Leather-look isn’t leather

PU and bonded “leather” are a coating on a fabric backing. They can’t be conditioned, and once the coating starts peeling nothing reverses it — we’ll tell you which you have.

Leather is quoted on the piece rather than a flat per-seat rate, because condition varies so much — a five-year-old suite in good order and a fifteen-year-old one that’s never been conditioned are different jobs. We’ll look at it and give you a number before starting. Fabric upholstery stays at the standard $40 per seat.

Big fabric suites, too

Most Rowville homes have a large modular or sectional, and those are cleaned as a whole piece — base, back, arms, cushion undersides, and the joins between modules where crumbs and hair collect out of reach of any vacuum. Priced per seat however the pieces are arranged, so a six-seat L-shape is six seats. Pet hair is lifted mechanically before any moisture, because wetting it only mats it deeper.

Two things to avoid on leather: baby wipes and general household spray cleaners. Both commonly contain agents that strip the finish and the oils beneath it, and the damage doesn’t show immediately — it appears months later as dullness and then cracking. For fabric, check the tag: W water-safe, S solvent only, WS either, X vacuum only.

Leather & upholstery cleaning Rowville — FAQs

Can you clean a leather lounge?

Yes, and it is a different job from fabric. Leather has no weave, so soil sits on the finish rather than inside anything – the cleaning part is comparatively easy. The care is in not stripping the oils that keep the hide supple, so we clean and then condition as two stages.

Why does leather crack, and can cleaning cause it?

Leather stays supple because of oils held in the hide. A harsh cleaner strips those out, and the leather then dries, stiffens and eventually cracks along the fold lines where it flexes most – the seat front and arm tops. That damage is permanent and is usually caused by cleaning rather than by use, which is why conditioning after cleaning matters.

What should I never use on leather?

Baby wipes and general household spray cleaners. Both commonly contain agents that strip the finish and the oils beneath it, and the damage does not show immediately – it appears months later as dullness and then cracking.

Is leather-look the same as leather?

No. PU and bonded leather are a coating on a fabric backing. They cannot be conditioned because there is no hide to feed, and once the coating starts peeling nothing reverses it. We will tell you which you have before quoting.

How is leather priced?

On the piece rather than a flat per-seat rate, because condition varies so much – a five-year-old suite in good order and a fifteen-year-old one that has never been conditioned are different jobs. We look at it and give you a number before starting. Fabric upholstery stays at $40 per seat.

How do you clean a large sectional?

As a whole piece – base, back, arms, cushion undersides, and the joins between modules where crumbs and hair collect out of reach of any vacuum. It is priced per seat however the pieces are arranged, so a six-seat L-shape is six seats.

Do you cover Lysterfield, Scoresby and Knoxfield?

Yes. We cover Rowville, Lysterfield, Wheelers Hill, Wantirna South, Scoresby, Knoxfield and Ferntree Gully at the same rates – there is no travel surcharge between suburbs.
