My Elwood flat has flooded. What should I do first?

Can flooded carpet be saved, or does it have to be replaced?
The carpet itself is usually salvageable if it was clean water and we reach it quickly. The underlay is the real decision – foam underlay holds water like a sponge and often has to be replaced rather than dried. Leaving wet underlay in place is what causes the smell that appears weeks later.
Why does the room still smell weeks after it dried out?
Almost always because moisture stayed in the underlay or the subfloor. The surface felt dry while the layers underneath were not, and microbial growth followed. That is why structural drying is monitored until it reads dry rather than judged by touch.
Do you provide documentation for an insurance claim?
Yes. We document the areas affected, moisture readings and the work carried out. Claims go far more smoothly with a record made on the day than with a description written weeks afterwards.
Can you get beach sand and salt out of the carpet?
Yes. Fine sand and salt work deep into the pile where sand is abrasive underfoot and slowly cuts the fibre. Hot water extraction flushes both out from the backing rather than lifting what is on the surface.
How much does carpet cleaning cost in Elwood?
